SOGGY ICE CREAM & MONSOON SUNDAY (JUN 2010)
ok.. what's wrong after being rained on both days and thinking... WOW a hot shower sounds good....
I mean... REALLY?!??!?
Saturday... MJ has a bright idea...let's go for ice cream... Ok.. sure... it looks dreary and raining but hey... we can use about 4 hours of "no rain time" - notice I didnt say sunny... and we can ride some... We met at an OK diner... could be a new good meeting place - called Tiffany's... just up from the Pine Grove
Sue and I got there a titch after 10... I did say "10 ish" and we knew Karen and Dawn would be late.... well... let it be a warning to all those that might be late... that PAGO awaits the lates!... Around 10:30 the skies OPENED UP... buckets of rain.... Sue and I had a momentary... Ohh that sucks to be Karen and Dawn... and then we continued munching on our breakfast ;) we saw one drenched guy - in shorts and tank - slogging it out... we did hear from Karen and Dawn.. holed up at the Mickey D's across from the Pine Grove... so close and yet.... we were sad that Caryl, Nadine, Janet, Lisa had had the good sense to stay home .... but I digress
Dawn and Karen did finally join us as the rain slacked - and they brought the down pour with them... finally around noon we headed out...
now - you would THINK I would be smart enough not to push it with the Pago Gods...but no... I did.... armed with my GPS... who I ignored the whole time - we took off to leisurely find our way to Lansing... we did find a few good roads down south - through some forest preserves - we found a Hawks Stanley Cup sales tent... and learned what a "fully dressed" road king was... a bike with saddle bags, and uh.. chrome... and ... uh... well .. the way the bike comes STOCK... so.. Mr Toasty was left behind and we headed off on our last leg for Ice Cream...
Then I decided to follow the GPS...but hey..l why not stay on the back roads... which led us through Calumet City... yea... well... let's just say... 4 girls riding some of those "city streets" prolly not the best idea my GPS had... but we scooted right along and the Chocolate Ice Cream Place was worth the trip! YUMMO... then as we got ready to leave the heavens BURST OPEN... is that thunder or a truck? Uh... Thunder...and lots of it... Dawn, ever the optimist, thought we could ride through it... but we chose to wait it out in a pizza joint until we thought we could go ... my first time this season in the rain... oh and leading.... oh and... well enough oh's.... so we slogged it out on the highway. We did learn that leaving too much space between bikes on 94 is not a good thing and vowed to tighten it up the next time. As we all know people on the Dan Ryan are crazy. Did I mention how I hate being wet on my bike... ugh.. I know it's all part of it... but could this be my only time this season in the rain? I promise not to tweak the Pago Gods any more. The whole time I kept thinking... you couldnt have charted a course home after Mr Blackhawks.. no no no... you had to push it... arghhh....At a gas station some lady walked all the way over to ask Dawn and Karen if we rode with a group on the South Side... to which I was thinking - wouldnt it be nice if we had a name! No... we don't ride with the South Side Rocket Girlzzz.. we ride with the... <fill in the blank>
We cruised up Lake Shore Drive - arrived in the garage - and then hit the street party - no worse for wear...<>
Sunday!
All ready with vim and vigor... Ok not so much... everyone got home late and getting up to ride out was not the best idea... Sadly missing Janet and Karen... with high hopes that maybe they might swing by even just to say hi... but the smart women that they are... they missed out on the monsoon sunday.
Cute cute place for breakfast... and they have a facebook page! I am fairly certain in full biker season when the weather is nice - we are not eating there again... it's cozy (read small) and lots of people obviously know how good the food and service is... sooooo...... unless we are there at 0 dark 30... probably not happening for us. The discussion was around the name... you know the name of the club... or not having a name... Caryl regaled us with stories from the dark side <> but not her handsome man she was hoping to see.
Wisconsin Tom Tom took over leading as Sue's GPS had drained its battery ... with the threat of weather ... we took off on the highway... It's clear we are all a bit rusty in riding together and hopefully we can find our groove. <> Motorists were out to get us... Sunday driving on 90 is always an adventure but Lisa managed to lead us artfully through the crap to Madison. We stopped at a gas station to fill up and determine the location of the trolls...and then... PA fucking GO... rainsuits on AGAIN... Lisa the Blueberry in the lead and it was raining til the cows come home... we waited for a break....<> we headed down Rte 12 avoiding the super highway. We had a slight separation occur but true to form we all figured it out and headed together off East towards home. Pago Pago everywhere and not a drop to drink... yuck. Cold and wet... what about the "humidity" I had heard so much about and the weather turning up to 91 - not that I like that kind of stuff....but still better than 61 and raining! Oh wait I guess 100% humidity is... RAIN... BLECK
Somewhere along the route it stopped raining...then restarted... then stopped. Caryl clad in her rain suit complete with hood... struck quite the pose with her cig dangling from her lips... Fortunately you couldnt miss Nadine... even if you tried... if you missed the florescent green jacket you couldnt miss the navel orange helmet! Morimoto was in the house! And like all cranky japanese men gave Nadine a bit of a fit right before it was time to go home... clealry morimoto knew this could be a limited season for him... what with the Stratoliner waiting impatiently at home... <> .. rain gone ... streets dry... then later to Caryl as she and her hooded head and cig peeled off on Randall Road... and then Sue and I fought traffic into the city along with a new traffic pattern waving good bye at Central ... I got to arrive home to a rollicking street fair - which was fun on Saturday - but not so much fun on Sunday night when all you want is something to eat and sleep... and you get really bad 80's music crooning away...I passed on the funnel cake ... and the drunken crowd... the alley was enough.
Is it wrong after all that rain that all I wanted was a hot shower?
Everyone arrived home in good shape... and safe... which is the aim afterall!
Let's hope the Pago Gods have had their fill and the rest of the season is warm and dry!!!!
Karen and Janet missed you Sunday!
On one of the days we saw a vacuum cleaner on the side of the road.... a sign?
The Hooverettes. ..? Hmmm never mind... off to work
